Ringtail Rescue and Sanctuary has been years in the making. Currently run by Lewis Bennett and Dana Shook, Ringtail Rescue and Sanctuary came about after the two fell in love with an abandoned raccoon back in April of 2015. Ringtail Rescue and Sancutary has saved hundreds of animals. They currently are offering a home to several animals who are not able to be released into the wild.

About Our Wildlife Rehabilitation Services
Wildlife rehabilitation in North Carolina is regulated by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and rehabilitators must be licensed for the species they care for.
In 2020, state regulations changed to allow qualified rehabilitators to obtain a Rabies Vector Species (RVS) license. Ringtail Rescue is one of only a small number of wildlife rehabilitators in North Carolina authorized to care for these species:
- Raccoons
- Bats
- Foxes
- Skunks
- Bobcats
We are also licensed to rehabilitate the following native small mammals:
- Virginia Opossums
- Wild Rabbits
- Red Squirrels
- Gray Squirrels
- Flying Squirrels
- Chipmunks
Our mission is to provide injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife with the care they need so they can be returned to their natural habitat whenever possible.
To provide the highest level of care, we focus on the species we are trained and licensed to rehabilitate. We do not rehabilitate birds, raptors, or snakes.
If you have found injured or orphaned wildlife, please contact us before intervening. We can help determine the best course of action and, when appropriate, refer you to another licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
