Ringtail Rescue and Sanctuary is dedicated to providing compassionate care and rehabilitation for orphaned and injured wildlife in our community. We are a nonprofit organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place for orphaned, abandoned and injured wildlife.
Ringtail Rescue and Sanctuary has been years in the making. Currently run by Lewis Bennett and Dana Shook, Ringtail Rescue and Sanctuary came about after the two fell in love with an abandoned raccoon back in April of 2015. Ringtail Rescue and Sancutary has saved hundreds of animals. They currently are offering a home to several animals who are not able to be released into the wild.

As of May 2019, Ringtail Rescue & Sanctuary is a registered nonprofit corporation/charity. Many of you know that we started with just one raccoon that we loved and lost but have grown to help hundreds of animals in North Carolina.

We got a call yesterday about an orphaned baby squirrel. We got her picked up and she’s a little smaller than Chester, so he has a baby sister🐿️

This time of year is perfect for looking up and checking out what's hiding in our trees, now that the leaves 🍁 are gone, or almost gone. Thosr leafy clumps that sometimes look like stuck leftovers could actually be prime real estate? Squirrels whip up cozy nests that look just like that, called dreys! 🐿️🍂
Did you also know that a squirrel's drey is not just a simple nest? These intricate structures can be quite elaborate, often made from twigs, leaves, and even bits of moss. Squirrels will typically build their dreys high up in the trees to stay safe from predators. They’re also known to line the inside with soft materials like fur and feathers to create a warm and snug environment. Talk about a furry little home sweet home! 🏡✨
